October Potpourri
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:23:31 am »
Another month, another challenge  ;D  Happy October everyone!

If you're like me, you have a ton of ribbon.  What do you do with the remnants?  I have a whole jar of ribbon pieces that are less than 12 inches long in length, not long enough to run all the way across my 12x12 layout but not short enough to throw away either!  Jackie's washi tape challenge last month got me to thinking, the tape was sticky and I couldn't figure out how to make the flowers, so I practiced with ribbon.  Viola!  Look at this flower

I used all leftover ribbon from my stash and used it on this layout:

The flower can be made in all different sizes and colors and can also be used on cards (I will be making one of these!).  So your challenge for this month is to make a ribbon flower and use it on a layout or card.

Here's a little tutorial on how I made this one.  I found ribbons of coordinating colors and cut them all to 6 inches (you can use various widths/textures of ribbon but mine were all American Crafts ribbons that I got in a swap years ago).  You will need a 1 1/2 inch circle of paper.  On each ribbon, put a glue dot on the top side of the ribbon at the 2 1/2 inch mark and fold the ribbon over.  Put another glue dot on the end and match the ends together.  Attach to the circle with a glue dot.

Work all the way around the circle until you have 4 - 8 petals.

You will need two of these.  Put a pop dot in the middle of one and attach the other one directly on top.

Top it off with a button or sticker (I used a woven circle).  Trim the ends so they're all the same length and attach to your layout/card.

You can use shorter ribbon lengths (just adjust the size of the circle and the folding) or longer lengths, whatever you need for your layout/card.  It certainly add a little bit of texture/dimension to your project.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with!  Get scrappin' ladies!!

Great idea Sherrie, I don't have any remnants as I always tie the two ends together and then cut, but I think I will make one of these adorable flowers and just cut the pieces,!!!

That is adorable! I use a lot of my short pieces for leaves on paper flowers. :)

here's mine........I did it with white ribbons, then misted it with orange, which came out a little faster than I would have liked, but I consider it done!
thank you for the challenge Sherrie
